Baci di Dama translates to "Ladies Kisses" and these most well known biscuits of the Piemontese patisserie tradition, they are still made by putting "or kissing" the halves together by hand, one by one.
Once the chocolate has cooled down they are carefully packed by hand into our stylish jars. The coarsley milled, toasted hazelnut flour along with plenty of butter gives these delicious biscuits a rich nutty flavour and a satisfying crumbly texture.
According to a legend, and who doesn't like a story of legend at Christmas, Baci di dama was born from the mind of a cook of the Savoy family in the autumn of 1852, after Vittorio Emanuele II asked him to develop a new sweet. This is why the fondant chocolate that unites the two halves in a marriage of taste, is claimed to be of royal origin.
Pile the baci high on a plate and enjoy at the end of a meal, or a coffee afternoon. Or, simply pass the jar around between friends watching a movie. A ridiculously moreish biscuit.
