A darker, richer interpretation of Siena’s celebrated Panforte, combining candied orange peel, almonds and honey with cocoa and a warming blend of traditional spices.
Dense and satisfyingly chewy, the cocoa brings a deeper, more bittersweet character, balanced by the brightness of orange and the soft nuttiness of almonds. The result is rich, aromatic and distinctly festive, with the same unmistakable Panforte texture.
Panforte has been made in Siena since the Middle Ages, when precious spices imported from the East were used in the city’s most luxurious foods. Over time, different recipes evolved from the original, each bringing its own character to this classic Tuscan cake.
Serve in thin slices with a strong espresso, cappuccino or after-dinner coffee, when its cocoa, citrus and warming spice come into their own.
